Scott Spencer
What kind of people are behind RAW Challenges and the unique journeys they create?
Born in the tiny port town in Western Australia, and growing up in the tropics of the Northern Territory - two places as far away from the rest of the world as you can get - meant travel was always on the cards for Scott. An eclectic hotpot of 'The Bush', Asian food and markets, Aboriginal culture, incredible wildlife and eccentric characters left Scott with an appetite for travel, exploration and experiencing the diversity of the world. And with a backpacking trip at 15 through Indonesia with his mother and sister his fate was sealed!
Studies in English and Psychology and work in outdoor leadership threatened to settle him down before a stint on the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a climb leader "brought me back to my senses!" A prolonged stint as a leader saw Scott take adventure tours and travel in China, Japan, Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal, Vietnam and South East Asia before deciding to start his own operations with Naomi.
Combining their passion for travel and cycling seemed a logical step and from the beginning their aims were to offer unique destinations and tours with both excellent cycling and exciting cultural experiences. Scott's regions of expertise include China, Mongolia, Japan and the Himalayan areas. All fantastic cycling regions with a depth of culture that continue to be an endless source of fascination to Scott.
It's fair to say Scott is hooked on Asia. The wonderful people, the delightful food, the epic landscapes and the tangible history make for constant adventure. One of his favourite destinations is Mongolia with it's big blue skies, big hearted people, wild horses, mountains, clear streams and a mountain bike paradise to boot.Scott still dreams of new tours, new regions, new single tracks and new experiences. He confesses to being married, lives in China with his Chinese partner Snow and couldn't be happier!
